Denis, Eve and I spent a lovely night enjoying the acoustic performances of beginners and professionals alike as they performed floor spots at the Swan Songs in Addingham. An eclectic mixture of enjoyable music and styles in a friendly welcoming atmosphere with excellent beer from the friendly staff behind the bar of The Swan.
Strid, singing duo Jennie and Simon, and hosts of Swan Songs set the evening off with rhythmic guitar and harmonising vocals, this was followed by many fine singers including Kath, Philip Cockerham in fine guitaring and voice, Paul Reade in good poetic voice and Gordon Roger who sang and played guitar joyously, James Porter who sang traditional and unaccompanied then Roger Knowles and Tony Martin played blues guitar with infectious voice, rhythm and harmony. Gloria Jeffries played expressive guitar and sang meaningful lyrics and in lyrical voice, captivating the Swan Audience, Eve and I particularly liked the song about Armley. Gloria also played flute in fine style.Simon did a great job adjusting mikes and volume levels to support the various singers and the Swan audience gave appreciative support to all the floor acts.
Kath Reade singer songwriter was guest artist of the night. Relaxed warm and personal, Kath sang with passion and in clear expressionate truthfulness that had the Swan audience captivated. Kath charmed her audience with a conversational style that set her audience at ease and sang and played joyously that had everybody wanting more.
A very enjoyable night, Swan Songs is a definite place to visit for anyone who loves music a warm atmosphere and a good night out.
