"Scenes in the City" - the music of Charlie Mingus@Seven Arts

This Thursday, May 19th 2011, at Seven Arts Centre, Chapel Allerton, Leeds LS73PD
Seven Jazz present “Scenes in the City” – the music of Charlie Mingus

Alan Barnes- saxes, Tony Kofi – saxes, Jeremy Price – trombone, Tim Lapthorn – piano, Arnie Somogyi- bass, Clark Tracey - drums.
“Scenes in the City” led by bassist Arnie Somogyi, combine the talents of some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians in an all-star line-up, playing music of the great composer and bassist, Charles Mingus. Expect to hear familiar jazz favourites such as ‘Boogie Stop Shuffle’, ‘Fables of Faubus’ and ‘Better Get Hit in Your Soul’ played with the freedom and drive that define one of the most important and colourful figures in Jazz.
"Soaring, beautifully realised interpretations which made a respectful nod to Mingus-era performances, while giving each musician enough space to create the individual solos which are essential to the all-star line-up”  Mike Wall
