Wonderful Beverley Folk Festival Experience- 2011

Beverley Festival once again colourful, diverse and vibrant- a beautiful experience.

Friday saw all the Yorkshire Gig Guide team settled in with tents pitched (almost not because ours very nearly blew away whilst we were trying to sort out which bit went where) and our media tent lounge up and ready for interviews and relaxation.

The weather mostly held at bay, some rain some wind and some sunshine- certainly didn't daunt the festival goers.

Over the course of the next three days we were entertained by a vast array of singers, poets  and storytellers.

The team were assigned to different venues and we all went off in anticipation of the usual wonderful and varied entertainment afforded by the Beverley Folk Festival.

We were not disappointed. As well the exciting stages of the 'Wold Top Marquee' 'Concert & Dance Marquee' 'The Main Stage' and of course the Festival Village open air entertainments on site, there were also workshops and entertainment including Morris Dancers, singers and other performers around  the town of Beverley itself.

On the canal was the fabulous barge of the Beverley Barge Preservation Society hosting various musical and dance sessions. In various pubs across Beverley, folk revellers broke into warming sing arounds and instrumental jammin sessions. The whole town was alive with music.

Of course there is much more to enjoy too, the lovely craft stalls where luthiers and craft people share their skills and wares

Yes Beverley Festival includes the whole community and on the Sunday morning the Folk Service in the Church of St Nicholas was accompanied by The Home Church Buskers. Very uplifting!

In the afternoon the 'World Went Local' in the concert Marquee with bands from the music of the Hull Refugee Festival.
And as Sunday evening sunshine turned into Sunday night, across the festival site people found their own ways to celebrate and say farewell to this lovely festival.

Some headed for the main stage to be thrilled by the energetic uplifting sounds of Bellowhead others headed to the jammin tent to enjoy music making with new found friends.

Many joined sing-a-rounds in pubs or spontaneous open air sing-a-longs and dance on the Green in the village space. The Wold Marquee rocked into the early hours and a lone trumpeter played out somewhere in the camping area.

We tucked our selves into our tents listening contentedly to the ebb and flow sounds of peoples musical farewells and revelry, the Minster chimed 3.00am as we snuggled into sleep.

Filmed interviews with many of the artists and clips of the events will be posted shortly. Do keep checking with us to see if your favourite is here yet!
